2024 Plexus Summer Interns Share Their Journeys of Success and Growth
As our Summer Internship Program draws to a close, we're excited to revisit our interns' journey and hear their reflections on a transformative nine weeks spent at The Plexus Groupe. We introduced our 2024 intern cohort just over two months ago as they embarked on a deep dive into the insurance world. Now, after various departmental projects, invaluable hands-on experiences,
and the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB) intern summer school, it's time to celebrate their growth and achievements.
Jack Bikus
Brand & Marketing Intern, Deer Park, IL
Jack made significant contributions to numerous marketing projects during his internship. He took particular pride in his work on developing external newsletters and creating a streamlined request for proposal (RFP) database, which will improve the efficiency of future RFP processes. Jack sharpened his technical skills with tools like HubSpot, Canva, and ClickUp while also enhancing his business insights, including networking and time management. He discovered that honesty is vital in the insurance industry, fostering trust and productive interactions. For future interns, Jack recommends seizing every opportunity, seeking mentorship, and fully engaging with the supportive environment.
Allison Clark
Employee Benefits Intern, Dallas, TX
Allison made a notable impact across several client teams, as she rotated every week, gaining hands-on experience with various projects. Her most significant achievements were identifying errors and suggesting design improvements for various materials, including benefit guides, marketing spreadsheets, and client presentations. This role sharpened her Excel skills and boosted her confidence in her abilities. Allison discovered that a 9-to-5 can be engaging and dynamic when you're surrounded by the right people. Her guide for future interns is simple but effective: make an effort to meet as many people as possible!
Ryan Doell
Sales Intern, Deer Park, IL
Ryan's key achievement was the development of industry-specific sell sheets for sectors such as real estate, contractors, and dentistry. His role involved crafting impactful content tailored to each industry's unique needs, which will assist in prospecting leads. Ryan enhanced his time management skills while juggling multiple projects and improved his collaboration abilities by working closely with other interns. He learned that now is an exciting time for young professionals to enter the insurance industry. His top piece of advice for future interns is to network widely within the company, as interacting with various team members offers valuable insights and career guidance.
Nick Floyd
Sales Intern, Memphis, TN
Over the last nine weeks, Nick showed dedication to his work on the Memphis campaign, contributing ideas for local advertising and generating potential leads for the sales team. His responsibilities included researching marketing strategies and offering initial ideas that helped streamline time management for leadership and the marketing team. Nick improved his Excel skills and communication abilities, which proved essential for interacting with internal and external clients. The most valuable lesson he learned was the importance of being intentional with his time. For future interns, Nick recommends making an effort to connect with as many associates as possible!
John McCarty
Property & Casualty Intern, Deer Park, IL
John took pride in creating the Property & Casualty (P&C) newsletter, where he applied his insights, reflecting his deepened understanding of the industry. Although he started with little knowledge of insurance terms, he now has a solid grasp of various P&C sectors, such as risk management and executive risk, preparing him for future independence in the industry. John learned the importance of building and nurturing professional connections, which he believes will be crucial for his career growth. He advises future interns to ask as many questions as possible and view the internship as an opportunity to develop essential skills and a mindset for navigating the professional world.
Cooper Pennington
Sales Intern, Memphis, TN
Cooper was particularly pleased with his role in the Memphis campaign. He and the sales team worked to raise Plexus' presence in our newest market by contacting advertising companies, negotiating pricing, and gathering valuable information to help build the Memphis office effectively. Cooper improved his communication, time management, and teamwork abilities throughout his internship and learned to be more personable and persuasive. A key lesson he took away was the importance of being a lifelong learner. Cooper's advice for future interns is to approach the experience seriously, actively seek hands-on work, and make the most of it.
On behalf of all Plexus associates, thank you to our 2024 intern cohort for their outstanding contributions this summer. We wish them all the best in their upcoming academic year and future endeavors!
