Plexus Vice President of Management Liability / Client Executive Willie T. Lindsey spoke to business law students at Kishwaukee College last week on a number of business and insurance topics, including the importance of continuous professional development, and discussed the differences between publicly- and privately-held companies with respect to Directors and Officers insurance coverage.
Lindsey came away impressed with the students, who are clearly determined to be “making an impact early in their careers,” he said.
Among the issues Lindsey covered were best practices for insurance brokers and agents, a nice real-world example for the class, which had learned about the principal-agent relationship earlier in the semester at Kishwaukee, a community college 70 miles west of Chicago. Lindsey, who is Plexus's management liability expert, also discussed the differences between being employed by for private and public companies.
“I enjoyed speaking with the law students about my experiences, the importance of building and maintaining relationships, offering career advice, and the importance of developing mentoring relationships within your industry and outside of your industry,” Lindsey said.
“Secondly, I shared with the law students the importance of learning something new about your chosen discipline every day!”
Lindsey has more than a decade of industry experience, previously working with Marsh, Travelers, AIG and Chubb in a variety of capacities, including public directors and officers underwriting.
“In class, we have emphasized the need to work hard, make connections, and be your brand. Willie’s talk brought that home,” the class’s adjunct professor said of Lindsey’s discussion with students. “They especially liked the fact that he emphasized asking questions, learning continuously to best represent the interest of the companies he works with, and how he used those skills to navigate hurdles.”
